John A. Anderson has been practicing transportation law in Portland, Oregon for over 29 years. Mr. Anderson and Terence J. Yamada formed Anderson & Yamada, PC in 1982. Mr. Anderson represents many trucking companies with issues involving government regulation, including safety, insurance, authorities, registrations, taxes, and operations. In connection with these matters, Mr. Anderson frequently represents motor carriers before the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (formerly known as the Interstate Commerce Commission), the Oregon Department of Transportation (previously known as the Public Utility Commission of Oregon), the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission, and other governmental agencies. In addition, he represents trucking companies, shippers, consignees, brokers, freight forwarders and others in connection with freight loss and damage claims, freight charge claims, bankruptcy issues, business transactions, contracts, etc. Mr. Anderson also represents motor carriers in defending against personal injury and property damage claims arising out of truck accidents.
Mr. Anderson received a BS degree in Economics from Willamette University, Salem, Oregon, in 1972 and his JD from the University of Oregon School of Law, Eugene, Oregon, in 1975. Mr. Anderson is a member of the Oregon State Bar and is admitted to practice before the US District Court for the District of Oregon and the Ninth and Tenth Circuit Courts of Appeals.
Mr. Anderson is a member of the Transportation Lawyers Association; the Conference of Freight Counsel; the Association of Transportation Law, Logistics and Policy; the Trucking Industry Defense Association; the Defense Research Institute; the Trucking Law Subcommittee of the DRI Committee on Transportation Law; the American Bar Association-Transportation and Insurance Law Practice Section; the Transportation Loss Prevention and Security Association; the Transportation Consumer Protection Council; the Multnomah Bar Association; and the Oregon Trucking Associations. Mr. Anderson is a frequent speaker before local transportation industry groups and has taught an extension course on transportation contracts at Washington State University, Vancouver Campus.
